Uber and Lyft Granted Extended Stay after Planning to Suspend Service

The reprieve was granted after both companies threatened to suspend services

Earlier today Lyft announced they were planning to suspend rideshare in California starting tonight at midnight. 

The decision has since been reversed, after a court granted both Uber and Lyft an extension to reclassify their drivers as employees. Drivers will still operate as independent contractors for the time being. 

A recent court hearing ordered both Uber and Lyft to reclassify drivers as employees instead of independent contractors. 

The ruling entitles drivers to benefits including sick leave, workers' compensation and unemployment insurance.
