Sacramento Inching Towards Official MLS Announcement

Looks like the 916 is MLS Bound!

The city of Sacramento is just days away from acquiring the 29th Major League Soccer team.

The Sacramento Bee reported that sources with knowledge of the deal believe the MLS is planning to make the announcement on Monday.

Sacramento currently is home to the Republic FC soccer team that has played in the lower-tier United Soccer League since 2014. This comes after years of speculation and negotiations to approve building on the Sacramento Railyards. 

KCRA shared that the Sacramento Republic FC took to Facebook to share the following: 

"We share the great excitement and anticipation in our community about Sacramento’s bid to join Major League Soccer. We will continue to respect the MLS expansion process and remain confident about the future of our club and our city. We look forward to sharing more information in the days ahead."

Mayor Darrell Steinberg will reportedly make the announcement Monday at 11:30 a.m. and it will be followed by a celebration starting at 4 p.m. on Capitol Mall between 4th and 6th streets.
