Luis Collazo is a 10 year-old boy from Texas that has survived cancer and is now an author of a published book.
Luis was diagnosed with cancer in his eye as a baby. He’s lived most of his life with a prosthetic eye. Luis has even been teased and bullied in school where other kids have called him an “Alien” for having one eye.
Instead of telling teachers and his mother about the teasing, he decided to start writing about his experience. He used his story to write a book called “Todd The Odd Boy” to encourage others that deal with similar issues.
Luis says “Even if you’re unusual, everybody is special, no matter how you are, my [eye] is something that I love, something about me, something really special.”
Luis plans to write more books as an adult and even though he’s in fifth grade now he also has aspirations to become a scientist and cure diseases like cancer.
