Back in 1991, many viewers were shocked to see Madonna’s audacious documentary Truth or Dare, both because of the bossy arrogance of the protagonist and because many of the scenes in the movie, which took place during her controversial Blonde Ambition Tour, were set up. Today, in an age of reality television, such hubris and artifice are hardly a surprise. What’s truly surprising is when a mega-celebrity—in this case Madonna—walks in unannounced for a 25th anniversary screening of her own movie.

That’s what happened on Wednesday night (Aug. 24.) in New York City at the Museum of Modern Art, and viewers in the audience were slack-jawed, Billboard reports. At the screening, the pop superstar sauntered in, natural as could be, and started chatting with fans.

In addition to the surprise appearance, The MOMA anniversary screening featured a roundtable Q&A with the film’s director Alek Keshishian, Blonde Ambition Tour choreographer Vincent Paterson, and dancers Jose Gutierez and Salim Gauwloos.
